Is there any reason not to attend the Christie’s and Sotheby’s auctions featuring works by Takashi Murakami, KAWS, and Yoshitomo Nara?

Christie’s will hold its auction at Sotheby’s from July 8th to 13th. In addition to jewelry, watches, Chinese paintings, ceramics, crafts, and modern and contemporary artworks will also be up for bidding. The “Modern and Contemporary Art Evening Auction” and “Modern and Contemporary Art Day Auction” will take place on July 10th and 11th, respectively, with previews already available on Pedder Street in Central for public viewing. Don’t miss out on this opportunity as an art enthusiast!

This modern and contemporary art auction includes works by art genius KAWS, who often navigates between popular culture and art. For example, the painting “Missing” in this exhibition is based on the popular creative format of the Renaissance period, and then uses innovative techniques to interpret a series of abstract geometric patterns, forming a stylish “face”. Of course, there is also the cartoon character CHUM derived from the chubby tire man logo, which I believe everyone is familiar with.

Yoshitomo Nara’s “Mathematical Cliché” is his first and currently only dual-disc painting. He incorporated patchwork elements into the canvas to create a circular composition, combining smooth lines of the characters with gradually thickening canvas arches, deep yet warm colors, and facial expressions of the characters, showcasing a unique artistic tension and balance through the presentation of contrast and pursuit of unity.

If you are a fan of Takashi Murakami, you can find his work “Posi Mushroom” from 2002 in the preview. The composition is filled with mushrooms of different sizes, each with sparkling big eyes and colorful shapes, creating a visually striking effect.

In addition, there are “Chrysanthemums in a Blue and White Basin”, Zao Wou-Ki’s “18.11.66”, Adrian Ghenie’s “On the Way to Tarascon”, Liu Ye’s “Perfect Painting”, as well as works from Andy Warhol, Gerhard Richter, and Cy Twombly, providing a great opportunity to appreciate the works of many famous artists all at once!

Dates: From now until July 9 (10 am to 6 pm); July 10 (10 am to 4:30 pm)
Address: G/F and 1/F, 12 Pedder Street, Central, Hong Kong
