Last year, many galleries started to move out of Central, and the first to leave Central, Galerie Perrotin, has finally settled in K11 Victoria Dockside and officially opened recently. The inaugural exhibition is “Kaleidoscope: Contemporary Portraits,” featuring portrait works by ten artists, including: Takashi Murakami, MADSAKI, Aya Takano, Hernan Bas, Chen Fei, Jean-Philippe Delhomme, Izumi Kato, Eddie Martinez, Barry McGee, Mr., exploring the concept of contemporary portraiture through their perspectives.
Portraits have always held an important place in art history. Before the invention of the camera, the public could only record a person’s appearance through painting, sketching, or sculpting. Artists capture the essence of individuals and their broader spiritual states through portrait art. In addition to reflecting the individual, it also equally reflects the person who brings the portrait to life.
“Kaleidoscope: Contemporary Portraits” starts with portraits to explain the ways in which the human form is understood and transformed. Each portrait reflects the artist’s perspective, piecing together a kaleidoscope of diverse expressions. Interested friends may want to visit Victoria Dockside to appreciate the artwork.
