A triangular greenhouse villa in the Swedish forest, with a powerful design that allows it to be “warm in winter and cool in summer” even without electricity grid connection!

Naturvillan Atri

In the outskirts of central Sweden, a pyramid-shaped residential building stands out. This building is named Atri, designed by the Swedish architectural company Naturvillan. They use wood and glass as the main building materials to create a residence with an ecological recycling system, allowing residents to experience warmth in winter and coolness in summer even when living far from the power grid.

Atri is located on the shores of Lake Vänern, the largest lake in central Sweden, with a cone-shaped triangular exterior. Up close, this striking visual structure is stunning. When viewed from a distance, the house blends into the treetops, harmonizing with the surrounding landscape, resembling a natural hill in the forest.

Architects strive to use ecological materials such as wood and glass, and through the thermal and insulating physical properties of these materials, create a protective climate shell for the building. Residents can see the entire house from the entrance, with air and light entering from multiple directions, providing ample natural light and air circulation. Even indoors, people can interact with the outdoor landscape, showcasing the subtle connection between humans and nature.

The interior of the building includes bedrooms, bathrooms, balconies, and a study. Residents can climb up to the rooftop terrace, breathe fresh air, and enjoy the natural scenery. It is worth mentioning that Atri is completely off the grid. This has made many people curious about how modern people can live in an environment without electricity.

Actually, the designer installed solar panels inside the house to power the house and heat water. In the winter, residents can heat and cook by burning wood. These two energy sources are used for energy production in winter and summer, to heat water and provide electricity. To increase security, the house includes another power source in case of extreme weather.

A water well is added inside the building to pump drinking water, and the wastewater produced will be directed to the garden for filtration, forming a recycling water system.

Atri’s architectural philosophy is to provide residents with a self-sufficient lifestyle. If you are starting to feel tired of being surrounded by concrete walls on all sides, would you consider living in this unique residential building?
