YG Entertainment is one of the top three entertainment companies in Korea, with popular music groups such as BLACKPINK and BIGBANG under its management. In order to support the company’s business development and provide better training facilities for its artists, YG purchased land back in 2012 to build a new office building. The newly constructed office building is located in the Mapo-gu district of Seoul, with its futuristic and bold design becoming the latest landmark in the area. Let’s uncover what this superstar cradle looks like inside!
The new headquarters building is designed by the design firm UNStudio, inspired by YG Entertainment’s business and the entire Korean music industry, the overall streamlined design of the building actually draws on musical elements. The building is designed with 9 floors above ground and 6 floors below ground. The designer describes the protective shell of the new headquarters building as resembling a “city loudspeaker.” Additionally, since the new building is right next to the old YG headquarters, the old building will be used as a multifunctional event and performance space, with a sky bridge being built to connect them.
The new building introduces a bright space with light colors and floor-to-ceiling glass, allowing natural light to illuminate the interior and offering expansive views. In addition, playful geometric shapes and large openings create a sculptural futuristic environment. Combined with high ceilings, expressive equipment designs, and surrounding green plants, the interior environment exudes a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere.
The building facilities include a two-story auditorium, 7 large dance practice rooms, 7 large recording studios, and 30 individual work studios where artists and songwriters can use these independent spaces for creation. On the ground floor, the atrium space features a hidden garden and serves as a “living room” to welcome visitors. The entire second floor is a modern cafeteria, while the basement offers large fitness and entertainment facilities for company employees and artists to use.
YG Entertainment stated that with the completion of the new building, they will cultivate artists at the well-equipped new headquarters and continue to contribute to strengthening KPOP’s position in the global market.
