David Hockney, known as the “British art godfather,” is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Even in his 80s, he remains curious about art and constantly experiments with new styles. Recently, a large number of his works were released by the London auction house, Sotheby’s.
Robert Kennan, the European Director of the Limited Edition Print Department at Christie’s, stated that the auction brings together prints created by David Hockney during his time at Bradford Art School, as well as his recent paintings created on the iPad. This auction will feature a range of works, from entry-level pieces estimated at £1000 to high-end works estimated at £250,000, providing an excellent opportunity for collectors to acquire his artwork.
Key works include his early and extremely rare prints “Woman With A Sewing Machine” and “Fish and Chip Shop”, both created during his student years in 1954. “Woman With A Sewing Machine” features the artist’s mother as the model, while “Fish and Chip Shop” is a self-portrait depicting his daily wait for meals at the takeaway shop The Sea Catch.
