亞洲藝術文獻庫周年籌款拍賣會 2022

The Asia Art Archive 2022 Annual Fundraising Auction will return in October and November this year, bringing over 50 generously donated artworks from artists, galleries, sponsors, and estate managers from around the world. The Archive has renovated and expanded its library this year, hoping to provide more space for collection development and diverse activities, as well as promote research and educational work on the history of modern Asian art. The proceeds from this auction will be used for future development projects of the Archive.

This year’s auction includes works by many renowned artists from both domestic and international backgrounds. The artists include Rita Ackermann, Mona Hatoum, Han Zhixun, Huang Rui, Sosa Joseph, Liang Zhihe, Liu Jianhua, Alice Neel, Shan Huiqian, Maria Taniguchi, Wang Yigang, and Zhao Wuji. Now, let us introduce some of the exciting items for everyone!

Han Zhi Xun “Suspension”

“The Hanging Scroll” documents Han Zhixun’s crucial transformation in artistic practice. At that time, Han began to integrate Eastern philosophy into Western visual language, while also rediscovering landscape painting and drawing. In this work, a red light breaks through the haze, revealing the artist’s ongoing exploration of light and metaphorically representing Han’s exploration of self and the embodiment of his ever-changing identity as a Hong Kong artist.

Rita Ackermann “Fire by Days Nudes IV”

The painting is characterized by rich and soft colors, with faintly visible female body lines. The casualness in this artwork embodies Rita Ackermann’s dynamic abstract imagery and the creative background of the “Fire by Days” series. While creating this series, the artist accidentally spilled paint all over the floor. Ackermann observed the traces on the ground while cleaning up, which appeared to be somewhere between figurative and abstract. This inspired the creation of this series in the early 2010s.

Tang Jiawei “Heavenly Realm No. 83”

“The Heavenly Realm No. 83” depicts a dark and rugged mountain range contrasting with the radiant sky above. Tang Jiawei has delved into the technique of splashed colors throughout his artistic career and has gained recognition in the art world. This captivating artwork is created using this unique method. The artist’s creative process in the “Heavenly Realm” series is spontaneous, painting landscapes from imagination in a state close to meditation. This series is also known as Zen painting.

Sosa Joseph 《Untitled》

Sosa Joseph’s childhood in the coastal state of Kerala inspired his work “Untitled”. Joseph intertwines memories and fantasies to create a solitary boat drifting into a vast and dreamlike space. This artwork is serene and tranquil, reflecting the artist’s spontaneous creative process, gentle brushstrokes, and subtle color gradients.

Alice Neel “The Family”

Known as a painter, Alice Neel created a small number of prints during her artistic career. “The Family” is based on an earlier and famous painting, depicting the artist’s daughter-in-law and granddaughters against the backdrop of a summer lake. This work embodies how the artist captures the true side of the characters through portraiture. The colorful clothing of the figures and the lush green plants express the liveliness of summer, while the expressions of the characters and the composition of the print interpret the raw reality.

Online bidding will be open from October 19th to November 3rd. Everyone is encouraged to show their support for this meaningful exhibition!
