Following digital artist Pak’s “The Fungible” series, Sotheby’s recently launched the second NFT auction “Natively Digital,” marking the first major auction house to host a comprehensive collection of NFT artworks since the emergence of NFTs, featuring works by top artists and the first-ever NFT artwork.
“Natively Digital: NFT Online Auction” curated by Sotheby’s and pioneering crypto art and NFT explorer Robert Alice, showcasing the latest developments in NFT technology, with Flamingo DAO being the first similar crypto tech organization to auction NFT works at Sotheby’s.
The works featured in this auction include early masterpieces of NFT art, such as the first NFT work by the renowned artist Ryoji Ikeda. Kevin McCoy’s “Quantum” also leads this auction, being the first known NFT work in history, a piece of great historical significance in crypto art, and Alien Cryptopunk’s “CryptoPunk #7523” is also highly representative.
It is worth mentioning that Pak, who achieved a total transaction amount of nearly 17 million US dollars in the NFT auction with “The Fungible” series, is once again collaborating with Sotheby’s to release an NFT artwork created specifically for this auction. This collaboration focuses on the concept development of NFT technology with artists such as Simon Denny, Casey Reas, and Mario Klingemann. The works of X-Copy, Fvkrender, Serwah Attafuah, and Mad Dog Jones highlight the importance of the futuristic aesthetic style in crypto art.
As for the visual artist Don Diablo, this time he brings a unique physical work that combines holographic projection art, music, and cutting-edge technology, showcasing the cross-border interaction of NFT with other art and cultural fields.
Sotheby’s will donate a portion of the proceeds from this sale to the Sevens Foundation to promote digital artists and support their creation of new media through paradigms such as NFTs. In addition, artists participating in “Natively Digital” will also donate a portion of their earnings to charitable organizations like Mint Fund to benefit more crypto artists.
A series of items are currently on display at the Sotheby’s Art Space in Hong Kong until June 10th, so if you are interested, you may want to go and enjoy them.
