Art lovers must visit! Pacific Place in Admiralty collaborates with Art Basel to showcase the works of Australian artist Daniel Boyd for the first time globally.

This year’s “Art March” brings together many eagerly anticipated events for art enthusiasts, with the most eye-catching being Art Basel. And once again, Pacific Place has joined hands with Art Basel Hong Kong to globally premiere a large-scale installation artwork by renowned Australian Aboriginal artist Daniel Boyd!

Located in Admiralty, Pacific Place has always been promoting the integration of art and culture into everyone’s lives through various activities. This time, in collaboration with Art Basel Hong Kong, they have brought the unique outdoor exhibit from the special exhibition area “Encounters” to the mall, showcasing the multi-faceted installation artwork “Doan” created by the renowned Australian Aboriginal artist Daniel Boyd, which is the highlight of this year’s Art Basel Hong Kong exhibition.

As the only large art piece outside the “Art Gathering Space” exhibition, “Doan” is named after the Yugambeh language of the indigenous people in southeastern Queensland, Australia, meaning “darkness.” The work embodies Daniel Boyd’s iconic artistic style, combining Boyd’s newly created moving image work, mirrored stage, and specially arranged windows for Tai Kwun, reflecting the movement of light and shadow during the day. “Doan” invites viewers to move within the installation, interpreting themes such as identity, memory, perception, and history through the work, starting from both personal and collective perspectives, prompting us to rethink how we view the past, present, and future, worthy of deep contemplation by the public. The work is presented by Seoul Busan Kukje Gallery and Melbourne Sydney STATION, with the full support of Tai Kwun Estates, the official partner of the “Art Gathering Space.”

Daniel Boyd has held exhibitions in different countries since 2005, and has participated in major international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and the Sydney Biennale. In 2014, he was honored with the Bulgari Art Award. He excels in using pointillist elements and symbolic concepts to create strong visual effects. As an Australian Aboriginal, he often explores colonial history narratives and issues related to race and culture in his works.
