Colorblind artist Ernest Chang overcomes disabilities through technology by recognizing colors with the cone app!

In the eyes of the public, the precise control of color and line by a painter can be said to be the most basic task. However, if a painter has difficulty identifying colors, does that mean they cannot create good works? Born red-green color blind, Ernest Chang is a full-time artist, and his usual creations rely on assistants to check colors for him. However, recently, with the help of the precise PANTONE color identification system on the Apple M1 iPad Pro and the cone app, he has created a brand new art series!

Ernest has been going in and out of art galleries since childhood, and has been interested in artistic creation since he was young. After learning that he was color blind, he dispelled the idea of becoming an artist. He later tried black and white portrait photography, and then realized that he needed to consider his own talents and interests, and transform the characteristics of color blindness into creative features. In the past, he relied on the assistance of assistants to distinguish colors, or used sculpting, printmaking, and other creative techniques to avoid his disability.

There is now a cone app that serves as a full-time color identifier, helping him match PANTONE color cards, and providing adjacent PANTONE color cards for reference when checking. Ernest will import reference images into the cone app on his M1 iPad Pro, confirm specific colors like Batman’s “Comic Book Red,” then copy its Hex code to Photoshop, draw with the Apple Pencil, and select colors that the naked eye cannot distinguish.

With the help of technology’s color recognition system, he can finally perceive the rainbow colors. Recently, he has launched a new exploration of Mars Lifestyle art series, bringing many light-hearted and humorous satirical capitalist creations.
