This year, Fine Art Asia will bring the Fine Art Asia Pavilion during the Art Basel fair from May 25 to 29, presenting a group exhibition “ARTique” to introduce a series of museum-quality art treasures to the audience, as well as the latest works by contemporary artists inspired by antiques. Here are some highlights of the exhibition!
“ARTique” combines art and antiques, with the exhibition name being a combination of “Art” and “Antique”. The exhibition features a selection of museum-quality ancient artifacts from 6 participating galleries, covering 4,000 years of cultural history. This includes the Jieziyuan Gallery bringing Chinese ink paintings; the Hengyi Hall showcasing Chinese classical furniture; the Yemu benefiting from Chinese antiques and artworks; Maria Kiang Chinese Art specializing in Chinese scholar’s desk items; Rossi & Rossi, experts in Himalayan artworks; and the Huibao Ge bringing Chinese bronzeware and artworks.
In addition, this year the organizers have invited 20 artists to unleash their creativity, engaging in exchanges with classical culture through unique artistic forms, creating or selecting a series of contemporary art pieces imbued with historical elements. The materials used are diverse and rich, including ink wash painting, oil painting, sculpture, kinetic installations, and video, exploring the interaction between classical aesthetics and contemporary art.
Key works include Hong Qiang’s moving image installation “Animation Series: Song and Dance” (2022), inspired by the animal carvings on Eastern Han Dynasty bricks; Zhuo Jiahui’s meticulous ink painting “Transcending Time” (2022), recreating the Han Dynasty bronze incense burner; and artist Mo Yixin’s “Dream of a Moment” (2015), part of the “Spellbound Memory” series, achieving a poetic realm with cloud-shaped sculptures on antique flower vases.
At last year’s Dianya Art Expo Pavilion, NFT works were introduced in an unconventional way, bringing great surprise to collectors. This year, they will once again bring new attempts, presenting the world’s first two characters based on traditional Chinese aesthetic civilization into the Sandbox metaverse, successfully integrating classical and modern art, culture, and virtual financial technology into the collecting experience.
