Spanish dark humor master Joan Cornellà has recently released many new works. After announcing the launch of his first NFT series “MOAR” in April, he also posted on Instagram yesterday the collaborative prints with British contemporary artist David Shrigley. What kind of playful works will these two artists who love “pranks” bring?
Led by the art creative unit AllRightsReserved, this collaboration series between Joan Cornellà and David Shrigley is named “VOTE”. The two artists will work together to create a set of 8 silk screen prints, each measuring 432mm in height and 324mm in width, with a total limited edition of 125 sets. Each artwork will come with a corresponding signature and number.
Shrigley and Cornellà are both known for their dark humor in their works, exploring the small quirks of everyday life through simple visual language. Their humorous and satirical paintings on various dark aspects of human nature and social culture in a quirky and absurd style are highly popular.
Shrigley’s work outlines things with simple lines, focusing more on formal expression, covering painting, sculpture, installation art, and photography. Cornellà, on the other hand, likes to use rich colors to portray his iconic characters, creating many humorous illustrated stories.
One of the works in this collaboration series is based on Cornellà’s most classic character Mox Nox as the theme, with each artist drawing half of Mox Nox’s appearance, accompanied by the slogans “This is what you look like” and “Exactly like this”, adding a playful touch.
Their work not only has entertainment value, but also explores daily life through bold sketches and questioning social norms in the text, providing space for reflection after laughter. This series is limited to 125 sets, with each set of 8 prints priced at HK$38,250 (approximately US$4,890). The products are currently available for lottery at DDT Store, and will close after 12:00 noon on April 1st, so everyone remember to seize the opportunity to collect!
