The “mountain climbing fever” born out of the epidemic has only increased in the past two years. Under social distancing measures, various mountain peaks in Hong Kong have become lively again. However, even if you are staying at home now, you also have the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful mountains and waters of Hong Kong. Bonhams will soon bring an online exhibition and sale of local landscape artist Wong Chun Hei’s work. The artist uses the popular Hong Kong hiking trail “MacLehose Trail” as the theme, allowing everyone to experience the mountain path scenery through the paintings!
Huang Jinxi, a painter born in the 80s, uses realistic mountain and forest scenery as creative materials. His paintings often feature high mountain ranges, blue skies, white clouds, rivers, and streams. In recent years, he has focused on sketching in local countryside areas. He uses bright colors to depict natural landscapes, combining personal imagination to portray the coexistence of humans and nature. Last year, he held several solo exhibitions including “Gathering on Room Island,” “Room Objects Tour,” and “Solitary Journey,” aiming to heal everyone who has not traveled for a long time with the beauty of nature.
For painters, hiking is like painting, as the scenery in their minds constantly reconstructs with each step. This time, choosing Hong Kong’s first long-distance hiking trail, the “MacLehose Trail,” Wong Chun Hei divided the approximately 100-kilometer path into ten sections. His work records the scenery along the way in a “one painting, one section” manner. He first creates on-site sketches, then incorporates his thoughts and feelings during the mountain climbing journey, as well as encounters with people and events, to create unique landscape paintings.
Although this exhibition will be held online, it is not like the typical online auctions where only photos of artworks are uploaded for viewing. Instead, the artist will unlock the views of each segment of the mountain road through live streaming every day, leading the audience to shuttle through the mountains, from the starting point to the finish line, to achieve a virtual mountain climbing journey!
After spending a lot of time at home, you may be starting to feel a bit of “pandemic fatigue.” Why not join Wong Kin Hei for a live streaming hike!
