In the bustling community of Hong Kong, crowded scenes can be seen in the subway every day. When everyone is in a rush, how many people pay attention to the various details in the station space? Blue Lotus Gallery presents the latest exhibition “Labyrinth”, where local photographer Christopher Button uses a film camera to capture the deep and quiet subway, creating a strong cinematic atmosphere. The photos show the usually busy subway becoming empty, making people feel both unfamiliar and familiar.
The photographer enjoys the uncertainty of waiting for film photos, usually using a Mamiya 7 camera to capture the vast and serene environment of the subway when the crowd of passengers has subsided. He uses time-freezing techniques to freeze the audience in the vast station environment, as if entering a maze full of unknowns.
Christopher Button is an artist and photographer living in Hong Kong, whose inspiration comes from the bustling city and the film worlds of David Lynch, Stanley Kubrick, and Andrei Tarkovsky. His work explores the inner lives of all things and carries a strong cinematic feel. He carefully explores everyday scenes that we often overlook and captures them with his camera, allowing us to see the beauty of different things within them.
In the dim yellowish tones, the surroundings are shrouded in a mysterious atmosphere, the handrail elevator, around the corner, crossing the passage seems to become a foreign space, waiting for the audience to explore…
