The visual freshness does not necessarily need to be obtained from highly impactful art pieces. Sometimes, painters’ unique subjects, painting techniques, and use of colors can make their works stand out. Gallery HZ is showcasing a group exhibition titled “Newness,” featuring 6 emerging and renowned artists, including Guishantian, Lousy, MoMo Kim, Peter Yuill, Dami Kim, and Kanny Yeung. Their works are distinctive, ranging from traditional oil paintings to digital artworks, creating a diverse and rich artistic space for the audience!

Lousy showcased two spray-painted wood pieces, “Star Child,” with vivid color schemes and a smooth, rhythmic brushstroke that spreads optimistic energy. The composition of Korean artist MoMo Kim’s work is simpler, using bright yet monotonous color blocks while retaining details and forms of the portrait theme. The simple lines and contours reflect the artist’s various perspectives on modern life and the city.

Local artist Ghost Mountain exhibited two new works this year, “Miss Hong Kong: Congrats” and “Liu So”. His works often contain a fusion of Eastern and Western elements, and he continues to explore local popular culture. “Liu So” depicts a woman in a cheongsam dress, filled with high saturation oil colors on the canvas. The woman sports a refreshing short hairdo, holding a cigarette in her hand, exuding a tough yet feminine charm.

《The Eternal Bronzed Goddess》 Peter Yuill

Canadian artist Peter Yuill excels at creating intricate geometric art. Using ink to paint, the artist’s abstract patterns are all composed of dense lines. He understands the meaning of existence through the purity of mathematics and geometry, with his works embodying his exploration of life and philosophy.

Dami Kim 作品

In addition, the exhibition also showcases the works of emerging artists Dami Kim and Kanny Yeung. Korean-American artist Dami Kim draws inspiration from classical oil painting and old photographs, using abstract and expressive techniques to convey the themes of memory and dreams. The fascinating colors and compositions in her work create a visual interplay of reality and illusion, which is very captivating.

Kanny Yeung 作品

Hong Kong artist Kanny Yeung showcases her most iconic sky landscape paintings, as well as a new series of abstract paintings. She excels in painting serene landscapes and skies, drawing inspiration from her own travels, many of which are from various corners of Hong Kong. The sunsets and starry skies under her brush exude a harmonious and tranquil feeling, allowing viewers to sense the artist’s careful observation of nature in her artwork.

From traditional oil paintings to digital drawings, the “Newness” exhibition brings works in different forms of artistic practice to the audience, showcasing the artistic talent and creative power of cutting-edge contemporary artists, and also inspiring us to reflect on our own lives and cities through different themes. If you want to experience a visual freshness in these novel artworks, do not miss the opportunity to visit the exhibition!
