The term “NFT” has recently become a popular word, with the surge of funds into cryptocurrency assets such as Bitcoin, the digital asset “Non-Fungible Token” (NFT) issued through blockchain is also being hyped. Earlier, at the first NFT online auction held by Christie’s, American digital artist Beeple sold a .jpg digital artwork for a record-breaking $69,346,250 (approximately HK$540 million), making the NFT market for virtual currencies suddenly trendy in the virtual space. Even Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey publicly sold his first tweet from 2006 in NFT form, attracting bids from people in different fields and prompting everyone to join the NFT market.
Renowned contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, who has always been at the forefront of trends, takes inspiration from Beeple’s success and announces the release of his first NFT artwork, available for sale on Opensea.
The series of NFT works starting with “Flower #0000” is composed of 24 x 24 pixels, featuring its classic smiley face sunflower pattern, evoking nostalgia. It is released in 108 different expression versions, representing the 108 desires in the world.
