To personally experience Italian culture, you don’t necessarily need to travel abroad. The recently unveiled “Italia Mia 2020” cultural festival brings a series of exciting activities, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the Dolce Vita lifestyle through various forms such as movies, operas, fine wines and dishes, art, design, entertainment, and more, to experience Italian culture!

Botticelli and His Extraordinary Time – Uffizi Gallery Collection Exhibition

For art lovers like you, don’t miss the opening event of this year’s “Italia Mia” cultural festival! The “Botticelli and His Extraordinary Universe – Uffizi Gallery Treasures Exhibition,” one of the “Hong Kong Jockey Club Presents” series, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Art Museum and the Uffizi Gallery in Italy, showcases a collection of precious paintings borrowed from the Uffizi Gallery in Italy and other institutions, highlighting the artistic characteristics and culture of the 15th to 16th century Renaissance period.

The exhibition features over 40 works by the renowned painter Sandro Botticelli and other contemporary artists, with a series of paintings focusing on portraits and religious themes, showcasing the humanistic spirit pursued by artists of that time. These precious collections also reflect the relationship between artists and patrons, as well as how the Medici family and artists together ushered in a new era.

Valentina Loffredo’s “Nosy” exhibition

To explore the global privacy issues in the digital age, Italian artist Valentina Loffredo presents an exhibition called “Nosy,” featuring a series of works including photos, sculptures, installations, and unique limited edition artist books, placing “noses” in different places. Valentina Loffredo uses playful artistic creations to mimic the seductive power of technology while revealing the conflicts hidden within.

Elisa Sighicelli’s “Stone Narratives” exhibition

Elisa Sighicelli has always used experimental photographic techniques to show the material presence of images and explore how they influence people’s ways of seeing. The works exhibited in this exhibition focus on the long history of Italian art museums and the exquisite yet often overlooked details in their art collections, initiating a dialogue between the classical and the contemporary.

Film program “Fellini’s Century”

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Italian film master Federico Fellini, the Hong Kong International Film Festival Association, in collaboration with the Italian Consulate General Cultural Office, presents “Fellini 100,” allowing fans to immerse themselves in the unique world of light and shadow. Federico Fellini’s film “La Dolce Vita” will be screened at the Tai Kwun Laundry Steps, telling the story of a gossip magazine journalist’s “sweet life” in Rome for seven days and seven nights. “La Dolce Vita” won the Palme d’Or at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.

An exhibition of Federico Fellini’s official photographer Tazio Secchiaroli will be held later, and Secchiaroli is also the prototype of the main character in “La Dolce Vita”, inspiring Federico Fellini to create the character of the “paparazzi”.

Gaetano Donizetti comedy “Rita”

“Rita” is a late work by Italian playwright Gaetano Donizetti, with its lively rhythm and unexpected plot leaving a deep impression. The story follows Rita, who owns a small restaurant and has two husbands. Believing that “Husband 1” has died in an accident, she embraces “Husband 2” and lives a life of female dominance. Initially carefree, “Husband 1” later believes Rita has passed away and returns to their hometown to collect her death certificate before remarrying, only to encounter “Husband 2” and the two scheming individuals decide to engage in a game of emotions.

Sword Culture Exhibition and Martial Arts Seminar

The “Way of the Sword: The Warrior Culture of China and Italy” exhibition curated by Zhao Shiqing and Roberto Gotti introduces ancient and early modern swords from China and Italy from various perspectives, as well as the origins and development of warrior traditions. The exhibition features ancient swords loaned from private museums in Italy, collectors from China and Italy, 16th-century martial arts texts and manuscripts, and several new media interactive installations that allow viewers to immerse themselves in a historical corridor, helping to deepen understanding of sword cultures in China and Italy. Visitors can also enjoy art photographs by the renowned photographer Zhu Dewa, as well as multiple Chinese ink paintings by artists Lin Haizhong, Zheng Yin, and Li Zhiqing.

For those interested in martial arts culture, you can also participate in the “3rd International Martial Arts Symposium.” The event brings together top martial arts scholars and experts from overseas and mainland China, as well as inviting Italian Renaissance martial arts expert and classical weapons and book collector Roberto Gotti, and renowned European martial arts scholar Dr. Daniel Jaquet for in-depth exchanges.

Taste Italian cuisine and wine

In addition to watching movies and art exhibitions, “Italia Mia” also brings Piedmont’s food and wine culture to Hong Kong. The “Piedmont Food and Wine Culture Festival” organized by the Hong Kong Knights of Alba will showcase over 100 Piedmont wines, as well as offer a variety of Piedmontese cuisine for guests to enjoy with the wines. Additionally, there will be a holiday market themed around white truffles, where customers can purchase the freshest white truffles and interact with experts in the field.

On the same evening, there will also be a “Alba Truffle and Wine Knights Banquet”, meticulously arranged by Michelin-starred chef Angelo Agliano at his restaurant Tosca di Angelo, featuring a special 5-course menu, with 2 dishes showcasing “diamonds on the table” – Alba white truffles. The dishes of the evening will also be paired with Piedmont wines produced by the Knights’ winery, allowing you to taste Italian delicacies and wines all at once.
