When others use paint to paint, she paints with paint! Australian artist Cj Hendry takes you into a wonderful scanning world.

When others use paint to draw, she paints with paint. And not just a little bit, but as big as a roll of packing tape!

This hyper-realistic hand-painted oil painting is the work of Australian artist Cj Hendry, with some commenting that it looks like M&M’s chocolates. But upon closer inspection, it is revealed that she actually used wood colors to depict the glossy and viscous texture of plastic paint!

She meticulously depicts outlines, shadows, reflections, and even the bubbles and three-dimensional texture created by the squeezing of oil paint, making the oil paint in the painting look as perfect as a printed or photographed visual image, quite detailed, also demonstrating her keen observation and mastery of materials.

This series of 60 oil paintings shows her deep love for oil paint pigments, blurring the line between reality and illusion, creating a kind of illusion that deceives the eyes of the public.

Looking at the hyper-realistic rainbow thick oil paint, I wonder if this is considered the most wasteful use of paint?

Looking at Cj Hendry’s work, it is definitely full of colorful and vibrant styles, but in fact, if you trace her creative footsteps, you will find that it is different from the past – she has always been good at creating realistic works by drawing black and white photos with colored pencils, and never expected to achieve great success and fame by switching to scanning colors.

In the past, Cj Hendry’s black and white style, she prefers to use popular culture as her subject matter, such as crumpled Chanel paper bags, perfume bottles, banknotes with rapper Kayne West’s face, and Polaroid photos of celebrities. She said she can’t draw or isn’t very creative, but through years of practice, she has developed this “magic” that looks deceptively real.

However, as early as 2017, she held the “Complimentary Colors” exhibition in Hong Kong for the first time, and it was also the first collaboration with the brand Christian Louboutin. Unexpectedly, this was also the beginning of Cj Hendry’s departure from the black and white world. When invited to exhibit at Art Basel in Hong Kong, she presented an exhibition themed around the development of “Complimentary Colors,” consisting of a total of 50 paintings. The process was both complex and tested patience, with each painted color taking nearly 4 weeks to complete.

The “Complimentary Colors” series has become popular, becoming her signature style, and then continued to create more dynamic and amazing works.

Saying goodbye to the “black and white” past

In recent years, Cj Hendry’s work has spanned different categories, including oil paint, fruits, animals, everyday objects, and various colorful flowers. Each piece contains her delicate and precise brushstrokes. Especially in the series called “Epilogue,” she meticulously paints realistic petal textures, wrinkles, stamens, and exquisite colors, almost flawless.

A vibrant oasis with a dreamy pool

At the beginning of this year, Cj Hendry created a 50-foot-long giant outdoor swimming pool in the wilderness outside Las Vegas, which is her new work “Public Pool”.

Not only the dream of this pool, but also the sense of conflict brought by the natural environment of the desert next to the pool has attracted everyone’s attention. In addition to the 12 sculptures shaped like flower swim rings and the original drafts of the flower swim rings, the pink flamingos, inflatables, and colorful floral patterns in this installation are all created by Cj Hendry. Limited edition paintings and prints, a series of beach towels, float beds, sunscreen, tote bags, hats, shirts, and other products with a pool theme have all been sold out!
