The Paris Men’s Fashion Week recently announced the schedule for the new SS23 season, with long-awaited brands returning to this major event in the fashion world, showcasing the latest designs for the season. However, one name was missing from the schedule, and this name recently announced that it will be heading to the familiar North African ancient city – that name is: Saint Laurent.
Led by Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent recently announced that they will continue to travel to different locations for the new season’s release. For the SS23 menswear collection, the brand has confirmed that they will return to Marrakech, Morocco for the fashion show. It is understood that the fashion show is tentatively scheduled for July 15th.
Continuing the recent preference for showcasing collections around the world, from New York, Malibu, California to Iceland, the Sahara Desert, Saint Laurent actively made these impactful arrangements before and during the global outbreak of the pandemic. Only the menswear collection did not have the opportunity to hold independent exhibitions in different locations after the outbreak.
About this cultural ancient city located in North Africa, it has had a close relationship with the brand’s founder, Mr. Yves Saint Laurent, as early as the 1960s. As early as 1966, when Mr. Yves Saint Laurent first visited the area, he was deeply attracted by the local customs, culture, and colors. Without hesitation, he proposed to his partner Pierre Bergé to buy the famous art deco Majorelle Garden as a grand residence in the area. Later, he became enamored with the creative work of the brand he founded, and decided to return to the grand residence every summer and long holiday to enjoy moments of peaceful solitude. At the same time, he also hoped to preserve this famous creation designed and built by French painter Jacques Majorelle and architect Paul Sinoir.
Until 2017, the Pierre-Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, managed by Pierre Bergé, decided to build the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech museum next to the Majorelle Garden, exhibiting nearly 20,000 years of precious designs, symbolizing the return of this fashion legend to Marrakech.
From 1966 to 2017, and now in 2022, Marrakech is once again linked to Saint Laurent. What will Anthony Vaccarello bring to the SS23 menswear show? How will the symbol of the North African ancient city become an important creative element in this series? Everyone is eagerly anticipating it.
