The Taiwanese drama “Someday or One Day,” which premiered in 2019, won applause for its suspenseful and mind-bending plot, and skyrocketed the popularity of its three main actors, Alice Ke, Greg Hsu, and Patrick Shih. At that time, many fans eagerly anticipated a sequel, hoping to witness the protagonists meet again in the same timeline and continue their romantic story. After a three-year wait, the original cast and crew are releasing the film version of “Someday or One Day,” which is set to premiere in Hong Kong on February 9th! Before heading to the cinema, let us introduce what we can expect from the film version.

“The storyline of the movie version of ‘Meet Me’ begins in 2009 when 28-year-old Li Ziwei (played by Xu Guanghan) meets 17-year-old Huang Yuxuan (played by Ke Jia-ying). They have a subtle sense of familiarity upon their first meeting. Later, they get to know and cherish each other, confirming their relationship as a couple on New Year’s Eve the following year. The story then jumps to 2017, when Huang Yuxuan is sent abroad for work and unexpectedly encounters a future time and space during this journey, affecting the lives of Li Ziwei, Mo Junjie (played by Shi Boyu), and Chen Yunru (played by Ke Jia-ying), who they have yet to meet.”

Fans who have watched the original drama should know that Xu Guanghan and Ke Jia-ying play two roles each in the story, which is quite challenging. In the movie, Ke Jia-ying plays both “Huang Yuxuan” and “Chen Yunru,” while Xu Guanghan plays “Li Ziwei,” and Shi Boyu plays “Mo Junjie.” There is a scene where all four characters appear together. The movie producer previously shared that it took four days just to film the scenes where these four characters meet and interact. The actors often have to act against thin air, which requires high acting skills, filming techniques, and post-production editing. This scene of the four characters appearing “simultaneously” has never been seen in the drama series, so audiences can appreciate the actors’ superb performances in the movie!

Due to time constraints in the film version, there will not be as many characters appearing as in the TV series. Instead, the focus will be on the relationship between the main characters. The original TV series narrated the characters’ student days, but the film version tells the story of Li Ziwei and Huang Yuxuan meeting after growing up, so the narrative is concentrated on their lives after entering the workforce. With the transformation from a campus setting to an urban setting, the new story framework is sure to bring everyone a fresh visual experience.

It is worth noting that in the movie version, there will be a new character, Yang Hao (played by Jin Shi Jia), who will meet Huang Yu Xuan as an adult and have a special connection with her. Everyone should pay more attention to this.

In addition, one of the core elements of the story is that when the protagonist plays 五百’s “Last Dance” on a tape recorder, they will transcend to another time and space. However, the drama did not delve too much into the origin and detailed story of this tape recorder. In the movie version, everything about the time travel events will be revealed, which will actually lead to a heartbreaking story of another character in the play. As for who that person is, it will be left for the audience to unravel one by one as they enter the scene.
