Since 2021, Girard Perregaux has partnered with the British luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin and its F1 team, Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team, becoming the official timepiece partner of the team. Earlier, the two sides launched two special edition watches to highlight the pursuit of craftsmanship in both fields. Today, GP brings another major announcement, announcing a new collaboration with the Aston Martin F1 team to launch the brand new high-end work: the Laureato Absolute Chronograph Aston Martin F1 special edition.
The essence of this collaboration is that both parties hope to once again achieve a wonderful fusion of two different fields through collaboration, aiming to draw more experience from the previous first collaboration – the Golden Bridge series three-bridge tourbillon watch Aston Martin special edition and the Laureato Laurel series Aston Martin special edition chronograph watch – and then innovatively expand to new collaborative projects, allowing the extreme spirit of watchmaking and F1 to be perfectly showcased. Moreover, the new GP Laureato AMF1 special edition watch showcases two world-first remarkable innovations in this collaboration.
The GP Laureato AMF1 special watch, made with a 44mm titanium case and carbon material, combines high-tech manufacturing processes for its components, mixed with dyed resin to greatly enhance the watch’s stainless steel properties, marking an industry first. On the other hand, the watch strap, presented in the Aston Martin Racing Green team-exclusive color, hides a secret. The strap is made of GP Rubber Alloy rubber alloy combined with FKM rubber (fluororubber) and carbon material, another industry first. It is worth noting that all carbon materials on the watch are sourced from the 2021 Formula One car AMR21, with extremely high manufacturing technology requirements greatly improving the strap’s flexibility while providing super strong resistance characteristics.
Aston Martin, which has always symbolized “nobility” in the UK, is also a car brand that combines style, luxury, and aesthetics. Therefore, GP has conducted detailed research on the brand’s history and archives for the new GP Laureato AMF1 special edition watch, and applied it to the watch. In addition to the case and strap, GP also uses an Aston Martin Racing Green sunburst design on the dial, and adds details inspired by the 1921 “AM” logo cross pattern. The two hollowed-out chronograph hands and the chronograph buttons at 2 o’clock position are designed in fluorescent green to echo the design of the AMR21 and AMR22 race cars. The counterweight on the chronograph hands is inspired by the design of the wheel rims on many Aston Martin road cars. In addition, there are some very subtle details in the design, which are believed to be discovered only by loyal Aston Martin fans and professional connoisseurs.
In terms of movement, the GP Laureato AMF1 Special Edition watch is equipped with the automatic movement GP03300-1058, providing a minimum power reserve of 46 hours, all clearly visible through the sapphire crystal case back.
As the first stop of the season for GP and AMF1 embarking on their journey again, the brand has specially released a limited edition of 306 GP Laureato AMF1 special edition watches. This number represents the total kilometers that the two AMF1 drivers, Lance Stroll and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, aim to achieve on the day of the 2022 British Grand Prix (5.891 kilometers x 52 laps), to provide absolute support to the two drivers and the team. The GP Laureato AMF1 special edition watch is now available at all authorized Girard Perregaux retailers worldwide, with an official price of $27,800 (approximately HK$218,227).
