Dior Men 2023 Autumn Collection: Paying Tribute to Ancient Egyptian Civilization with a Pyramid as the Sensational Background

by

Kim Jones, who is particularly interested in ancient Egyptian astronomy, moved the Dior Men Fall 23 fashion show to Cairo, Egypt, and showcased 75 outfits in front of the “Egyptian Giza Pyramid Complex,” one of the Seven Wonders of the World. On one hand, it commemorates the brand’s 75th anniversary, and on the other hand, it pays tribute to the ancient civilization of thousands of years ago, expressing how the past has shaped the future through different forms or conveying the message that the future begins with the past.

The series is inspired by the concept of “Guided by The Stars”, with the color palette transitioning from gradient gray to desert tones, capturing the color changes of yellow sand from day to night, with a hint of sunset hues in between. The imagery of stars also transforms from faint starlight to the galaxy nebula captured by NASA telescopes, turning distant wonders of light-years away into creative and dynamic starry prints.

Clothing creates rich layers with different textures, outerwear, and accessories, enveloping the body in warm protection, like the accumulation of different historical eras, such as using sheer jacquard fabric to reveal the inner suit and coat.

Kim Jones also tried to incorporate the silhouette of women’s clothing into men’s tailoring, drawing inspiration from Dior’s Bonne Fortune pleated skirt from the 1950s. He introduced a new pleated wool skirt, paying homage to ancient men’s clothing while showcasing innovative outerwear weaving techniques.
