SAINT LAURENT Men’s SS23 Fashion Show featured elements from the brand’s 1962 history?

Although this season’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week came to a successful close at the end of last month, some brands also took advantage of the fashion week’s official return to the traditional schedule, returning to this fashion event to present the new season. However, if you look closely, you will find that some designers did not lead their brands to participate in this season’s men’s fashion week. This includes Anthony Vaccarello, who leads SAINT LAURENT.

The brand recently announced that SAINT LAURENT’s Spring/Summer 2023 menswear show will be live streamed at 3:30 AM on Friday, July 15th Hong Kong time.

The brand has announced and revealed relevant details at the same time. From the official poster, the brand will present the “YSL” logo in the desert, and the poster also mentions “AGAFAY,” indicating that the men’s SS23 fashion show is likely to take place locally. Located in the Agafay Desert in Morocco, it is a desert area that is at least a 45-minute drive south from the ancient city of Marrakech, but it is known as the Martian Desert due to its extraordinary desert landscape resembling Mars. The famous Scarab Camp in this area is a popular destination for vacations and photo shoots for many celebrities, including Madonna and Saint Laurent, who often shoot and hold events here.

In addition, another noteworthy point is that on the SS23 fashion show poster, an original logo created around 1962, when the brand was first established, appeared. However, the most special thing about it is that it does not appear in its complete form, but rather omits the word “YVES” from “YVES SAINT LAURENT”.

Although the brand has been using the logo reformed by Hedi Slimane since he took office in March 2012, when the poster appeared with the design by the French-Ukrainian painter and designer Adolphe Mouron Cassandre, it once again showed the situation of “Without YVES”. It inevitably reminds people of the event when Mr. Yves Saint Laurent officially launched the ready-to-wear collection Saint Laurent Rive Gauche in 1966, replacing Cassandre’s design with a version without Yves and a quite different style. Although the brand or Anthony Vaccarello himself did not explain this, as an extremely representative event in the history of the SAINT LAURENT brand, there must be a reason behind the rumors, and I believe that this move also symbolizes some ideas of this season. Fashion enthusiasts, do not miss it.
