Since Virgil Abloh’s passing last year, Louis Vuitton has yet to announce who will succeed him as the artistic director of menswear. Therefore, the brand’s Spring/Summer 2023 menswear collection is being handled by the menswear design team who worked with Virgil Abloh for three years.
The fashion show was held at the Louvre in Paris, with the brand’s menswear design team focusing on the concept of “childlike innocence” valued by Virgil Abloh. For Virgil Abloh, children have not yet been limited by societal norms and possess a free imagination, making their thoughts a source of creativity. The menswear design team also deeply believes that only by transcending various limitations of imagination can they move audiences from around the world. Therefore, they specially enlarged the toy car racetrack for children into a fashion runway, decorating it with red inflatable balloons to transform the show into a highly imaginative giant playground.
From the overpass, you can see the playful design, the team interprets the inspiration of childlike innocence through exquisite tailoring craftsmanship, such as a black suit embellished with paper airplanes, jackets and coats covered in floral patterns, origami sailboat hats, brightly colored bead decorations, etc., making people feel the design team’s dedication to interpreting from Virgil Abloh’s perspective; and the floral elements that run through the series from beginning to end seem to be a tribute to Virgil Abloh’s short but brilliant life.
