The Wan Chai Happy Bakery, which has stood for 45 years, caused a lot of sighs when it closed last year. Fortunately, there is still a Ma On Shan branch and the Wan Chai branch has just reopened! The new location is just a few shops away from the old store, and the new store is named “Happy Noodles and Bread”. As soon as it opened, there was a long line, with about 20-30 people waiting inside and outside the store during lunchtime.
Cream puffs, chicken pies, scones, and egg tarts are all available as popular items. The cream puffs in the bread cabinet are almost always absent because whenever the staff brings out a plate of cream rolls, they are all taken by customers before they even reach the bread cabinet.
Egg tarts come in two types of crusts: flaky pastry and cookie crust. The high-bodied custard egg tart is particularly eye-catching, with taro paste and mochi filling inside. The cookie crust is very crispy, while the custard filling is smooth and slippery. Since the turnover is fast, most of the products you buy are freshly baked, and the hot and spicy taste makes it irresistible to eat one bite after another!
There are several new bread options, including mochi purple sweet potato bagels, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside mochi balls, coffee bread, pudding bread, and exquisite Parisian cream puffs in the dessert category.
In addition to the reopening of the bakery, there is another good news. A poster is posted in the store announcing the opening of another new store in mid-April. It will be a crossover between Happy Bakery and Shun King Tea Restaurant. It will be called “Happy Shun King” and will be located on Lan Fong Road in Causeway Bay. It is worth looking forward to!
