Discover the must-visit spots for a day trip to Peng Chau Island! Don’t miss out on trying the Japanese-style boxed tiramisu at a popular restaurant, or the highly sought-after fermented bean curd sesame biscuits from an old-fashioned bakery.

Why not plan a weekend trip to an outlying island? Although Peng Chau is small, there are plenty of places to explore, such as cafes, dessert shops, old bakeries, and the revitalized leather factory. Even the houses along the small streets can serve as a backdrop for your Instagram photos! Right next to the pier is a pink L-shaped residential building, with the blue sky as the background and the reflection in the water, making it a perfect spot for eye-catching IG photos!

In recent years, Ping Chau has also opened a café that serves delicious coffee and desserts. In addition to Island Table, which we have previously introduced, there is also The Edible Projects, a yellow house with outdoor seating in front that resembles a small garden. It’s a pleasant place to stop by and enjoy a cup of coffee!

As a dessert lover, you must try the tea house Daruma. After moving to a new location last year, the space has become even bigger. The tatami mats inside and outside the shop create a traditional Japanese atmosphere. The most popular item on their menu is the box-shaped Tiramisu. In addition to desserts, they also offer a variety of Japanese snacks, savory dishes, udon noodles, cheese rice cakes, parent-child rice bowls, skewers, and more. You can enjoy a full meal here before going shopping for snacks.

Another must-visit place is a bakery called “Bread Shop”. Their authentic Nanru Sesame Biscuits are generously covered in sesame seeds, with a thin and crispy texture. They have a savory flavor from the Nanru but are not too greasy. If you want to buy them, it’s best to go early. Once they come out of the oven, they are quickly sold out by customers, so you’ll need some luck to get them.

After revitalization, the Grade III historic site, Tannery, is known as the secret garden of Ping Chau. Its spacious location resembles an art village. There are various art installations all around, as well as small shops selling lifestyle goods. It’s a great place to explore when the weather is nice.
