Mysterious all-black entrance in Sham Shui Po’s new café! Homemade Mizu-Senbei/Rare Coffee/Japanese Yakitori

This newly opened café in Sham Shui Po, with its all-black exterior and no sign, is a must-visit! Named Saloon, this coffee shop offers specialty coffee from afternoon till evening, and in the evening, they also serve Japanese yakitori and a variety of drinks.

The most eye-catching item is our homemade “Water Mochi” (HK$55), the concept is water that you can “eat”. The owner of the coffee shop, who loves coffee, pays great attention to the water quality for brewing specialty coffee, adjusting the acidity, alkalinity, and minerals of the water through strict testing and tasting. Because they wanted to use the water used to brew coffee to make the Water Mochi, only rose water and granulated sugar are added, creating a smooth texture and a subtle taste. Served on a blue plate, it presents a charming color scheme.

Another thing worth noting is the evening market. Café offers Japanese yakitori every night after 6pm, with over 30 snack options, including lamb shoulder ($128), beef shoulder ($258), and the white eel ($58) is rich and juicy, while the anglerfish liver ($58) is fragrant and creamy. There is also an interesting “gout pill” ($46), which is a quail egg wrapped in chicken skin.

Beverages are mainly focused on premium coffee, with prices slightly higher than regular Italian coffee, but with different flavors and brewing methods, allowing you to taste more unique flavors. A recommended non-coffee drink is the Amber Lemon Soda (HK$65), topped with homemade and air-dried gummy candy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
