“Black Tie” literally means a black necktie and also represents the dress code requirement for “formal attire”. In Valentino’s 2023 Autumn/Winter collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli redefines “Black Tie” as a cultural symbol, no longer just a set dressing rule, and challenges the countless possibilities of black tie attire.
The black tie is no longer a symbol of male power or a rigid stereotype in this collection. The subjective individualism and cultural characteristics that have emerged have been completely subverted. Pierpaolo Piccioli draws inspiration from everyday life fragments, using the appearance of the black tie to design a completely new clothing collection. Black and white are the main colors of this season, with a touch of bright red and green in the middle to catch the eye.
The fusion of shirts and collars runs through the 73 looks in the collection, no longer confined to their original wearing styles, subverting everyone’s established image, freely switching between daywear and eveningwear. Daywear focuses on tailoring, with long or short skirts paired with suits or coats, suitable for both men and women, not confined to a specific style. Haute couture tailoring and craftsmanship are always present in Valentino’s collections, and this season’s gorgeous dresses, created with elements such as feathers and sequins, also showcase a distinct style.
