When it comes to the Tangram puzzle, it may immediately evoke memories of your childhood. This small toy that has been passed down in both the East and the West has become the inspiration for the Shiatzy Chen 2023 Spring/Summer collection, titled “Tangram,” blending Eastern and Western clothing craftsmanship to interpret infinite combinations and construct a charming and clever fusion. This season, starting with the Tangram puzzle as the inspiration, triangles, squares, trapezoids, and other shapes are reinterpreted and pieced together in fashion with imaginative geometric designs. In line with the design inspiration, seven representative colors have been specially selected, from eye-catching honey orange, golden yellow, to the vibrant and joyful sky blue and vermilion red prints symbolizing spring and summer vitality, and the subtle emerald green peeking through the classic deep black and moon white, conveying a firm energy of endless creativity.
The clothing is filled with 1960s style, blending cute Western retro silhouettes with unique geometric lines. The classic mini skirt suit is embellished with diamond-shaped hollow designs, the crisscross combination of the H-line square structured mesh jacket, and the geometric line embroidered straight stand-up collar dress, conveying a declaration of contemporary women’s carefree independence.
Another focus of the series is the use of Pop Art-inspired printed patterns, with bold and vivid strokes redefining geometric shapes, and incorporating Eastern imagery such as paradise birds and orchid silhouettes. The vivid totem prints are full of artistic and fashionable style. Embroidery has always been the brand’s most representative craftsmanship, and this season, the “Suzhou embroidery” from the four famous embroideries is vividly presented in the collection, using the “web embroidery” technique of Suzhou embroidery. By using the ultimate hand embroidery technique to outline geometric shapes on organza, and intertwining with loop embroidery and seed embroidery, delicate three-dimensional floral patterns are presented.
