As the most influential artists since the 19th century, masterpieces by Van Gogh, Monet, and other masters are still beloved by countless people and are often applied in fashion design. This spring and summer, street fashionistas’ favorite Dr. Martens has launched a collaboration series with the National Gallery – Dr. Martens X The National Gallery, incorporating the works of Impressionist painter Monet, Van Gogh, and Post-Impressionist representative Seurat into shoe designs, bringing a literary and artistic touch to the latest styles!
Van Gogh’s works are bold in color, rich in expressive brushstrokes, and are pioneers of expressionism. The flowers in his paintings are colorful, challenging the traditional way of depicting still life. Among many floral designs, he particularly loved sunflowers, and painted works depicting flowers in different poses, becoming one of his iconic works. In this collaboration series, “Sunflowers” is printed on the Original 1460 8-eye boots, adorned with antiqued gold eyelets, dark brown laces, and the brand’s signature yellow stitching, echoing the colors of the painting itself.
Monet is the founder of Impressionist art, and his ambitious depiction of the French countryside led to the creation of the great painting “Water Lilies.” He repeatedly painted the same scene to capture the changing light and passing seasons, becoming one of his most widely recognized series. This classic piece is printed on 1461 three-eye shoes, paired with distressed silver eyelets, black laces, and yellow welt stitching, showcasing the original artwork’s exquisite color variations.
Xiu La is a French post-Impressionist artist known for his pointillist painting technique. His works often combine extreme sensibility with a passion for logical abstraction, creating a powerful creativity. In this series, the depiction of the Seine riverside scenery in “Bathers at Asnières” is reprinted on 1461 three-eye shoes, highlighting the leisurely French atmosphere.
The series is now available for purchase at selected stores in Hong Kong, so why not get some and add a touch of literary new ideas to your spring and summer style!
