The “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition is held in Tokyo, celebrating the unique exchange between Dior and Japan.

“Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition, after successful showcases at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the V&A Museum in London, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and other locations around the world, has now moved to the Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. The exhibition will be held from today until May 28, 2023, as a celebration of the unique exchange between Dior and Japan. The exhibition’s venue design is created by Shohei Shigematsu, a partner and architect at the renowned Japanese architectural firm OMA. With a fresh narrative approach that pays tribute to Japanese culture, the exhibition presents Christian Dior’s creative passion spanning over 75 years in a refreshing and captivating manner.

Under the guidance of curator Florence Müller, the exhibition reveals the influence of brand founder Christian Dior on the art world, his love for gardens, and his longing for the vibrant creative culture of Japan. Precious documents from the exhibition offer a glimpse into these aspects, with some exhibits never before publicly displayed.

The exhibition showcases Dior’s haute couture and accessory collections from the past to the present, including the iconic New Look symbol – the Bar suit jacket. It also features works by the brand’s former and current artistic directors, including Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri.

To continue the visionary spirit of Mr. Dior, the exhibition also includes the innovative interpretations of Lady Dior handbags from the Dior Lady Art and Lady Dior As Seen By projects, as well as the perfumes Miss Dior and J’adore, reflecting the brand’s history and creativity in a fresh style.

In addition, visitors can also explore the famous collection of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, as well as the photographs specially produced by Japanese photographer Yuriko Takagi for this exhibition. Fashion enthusiasts who happen to be in Tokyo or are planning to travel there should definitely not miss the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition.
