Saying goodbye to the Ritz Paris? Chanel 2021/22 Métiers d’art show will be held at the brand’s new landmark!

When it comes to Chanel’s fashion shows, everyone will definitely think of the Grand Palais in Paris. Over the years, the brand has held countless groundbreaking shows inside the Grand Palais, but unfortunately, the Grand Palais is currently closed for renovations. Even the recent Spring/Summer 2022 fashion show had to be moved to the new venue, Grand Palais Éphémère. The brand recently announced that the 2021/22 Métiers d’art haute couture workshop series in December will be held in a new and unexpectedly symbolic venue.

Although Chanel’s Métiers d’art collection show has always been chosen based on the theme of the collection, last year’s show was held at the Château de Chenonceau, also known as the “water castle”. In the past, it has also been held at the Ritz Paris hotel in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and other locations. For the 2021/22 Métiers d’art collection, the show will be held inside the newly completed le19M building, which combines several of Chanel’s workshops.

le19M is composed of 19 and M, where 19 represents the 19th arrondissement of Paris where the building is located, as well as Coco Chanel’s date of birth. M represents Métiers (craftsmanship), Mode (fashion), and Maisons (houses), blending Chanel’s characteristics and brand craftsmanship. The 11 workshops under Chanel will be gathered in this new le19M building, including embroidery workshops, hat-making workshops, shoe-making workshops, feather workshops, and more. Around 600 artisans will craft each unique Chanel piece here.

This time, le19M was chosen to hold the 2021/22 Métiers d’art show. In addition to showcasing this newly completed flagship building to the outside world, I believe Virginie Viard will also present the brand’s craftsmanship through the series design all at once. Let’s look forward to this grand show performed at “home”!
