“In the Mood for Love” 4K Restoration Edition Returns to the Big Screen! Wong Kar-wai’s Original Soundtrack Navigation Film Exhibition, First Time Revealing Precious Manuscripts!

Following “In the Mood for Love,” director Wong Kar-wai’s another classic work “Happy Together” will be released in a new 4K restored version and re-screened in theaters, allowing the audience to experience the flawless sound and picture quality on the big screen, reappreciating the love battle between Ho Po-wing and Lai Yiu-fai! In addition to the film, Emperor Cinemas will also collaborate with Ze Dong Films to bring fans the “Happy Together 4K Restored Version Film Exhibition,” where the exhibition venue will be divided into several uniquely themed areas, with scenes from the film set up to showcase the space, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the world of “Happy Together” along with the main characters.

“Happy Together” tells the love story of a gay couple in Argentina. Lai Yiu-fai (Tony Leung) and Ho Po-wing (Leslie Cheung) set off from Hong Kong with a map. Ho Po-wing buys a beautiful lamp, and the two set off to find the South American waterfall that the lamp rotates on. In the unfamiliar South American soil, they support each other, but have arguments during their difficult journey, leading to their separation. After parting ways, they each start new lives but still remember each other.

Later, the two met again after several months, and Ho Bao-rong intended to start anew with Lai Yao-hui. Later, the two reconciled, but suspicions and mistrust led to conflicts, and they separated again. Lai Yao-hui eventually embarked on the journey that belonged to them, and there he realized that to wander outside happily, one must have a place to return to.

The movie celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, so Emperor Cinemas will set up a special exhibition at iSQUARE in Tsim Sha Tsui. From stepping into the cinema, the audience will feel like they are walking into the movie, taking a journey with Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung in “In the Mood for Love.” The three main exhibition areas include: “Eternal Tango,” “Days of Being Wild,” and “Iguazu Falls.”

“The Eternal Tango” showcases a series of photos of Ho Po-wing and Lai Yiu-fai dancing the tango in the theater lobby, with special projections, allowing the audience to personally experience the intimacy and struggle between the two. “Happy Together Journey” displays many unreleased movie stills and precious manuscript photos in the corridor, allowing the audience to follow the production team and the two main characters’ footsteps, experiencing this journey of spring light.

And in the “Iguazu Falls”, the audience arrives at the final destination of the journey, the Iguazu Falls, standing in front of the waterfall lights, with the lighting and sound effects, drawing a perfect end to this journey. In addition, large movie stills are set up in the theater lobby and glass corridor, including Leslie Cheung in a white tank top from the movie, saying the classic line: “Let’s start from the beginning.” Every scene is a popular photo spot!

This exhibition is not only a unique visual feast, but also a groundbreaking original sound navigation created by director Wong Kar-wai – audience can simply scan the QR Code with their smartphones in each exhibition area to listen to the director’s voice and follow the footsteps of Christopher Doyle and Mark Lee Ping-Bing to “start from the beginning” and deeply explore “Happy Together”.

Director Wong Kar Wai first shared the entire restoration journey and its difficulties, then mentioned the creative concept of “Happy Together”, which actually includes the three key words of “end of the world”, “stay or leave”, and “tango”. He will personally explain the meaning and emotional tension through audio commentary. “Happy Together” is a story about ‘reunion’, and I am very fortunate to be able to ‘reunite’ with movie fans in a brand new way as the film approaches its 25th anniversary,” said Director Wong Kar Wai.

“Springtime in a Small Town” 4K Restoration Exhibition showcases various elements of the film in a new way, allowing the audience to better understand director Wong Kar-wai’s creative ideas and the deeper meaning of the movie. Movie fans, do not miss this rare opportunity!
