Taikwun Contemporary is currently hosting the exhibition “Myth-Makers: Spectrosynthesis III”. This is Hong Kong’s first large-scale exhibition with a focus on LGBTQ+ themes, exploring the core concept of “queer mythology” and featuring over 60 artists from Asia and its diaspora. The exhibition showcases various contemporary myths and bodily practices related to LGBTQ+ themes.
“神话制造者”从处理”酷儿神话”的艺术家处汲取灵感,他们在亚洲古代信仰体系和传统中发现同性爱欲或性别流动的存在。同时,展览也探讨这个时代的各种”新传统”,包括奇观和名人文化,嬉戏和或越界,以及当代艺术作品中非规范的身体实践和历史。
展览通过三个截然不同的章节展开,展出的超过100件作品,其中有新作品,也有40到90年代的旧作。虽然展览的大部分参展者为在世的艺术家,但展览也将特别重新强调一些具有先知远见和革命性的逝者,尤其在他们活着的年代,当今的LGBTQ+认同根本尚未来临。
In the first chapter, “Queer Mythology: Myths on and off the Stage,” artists depict mythological figures, creation stories, and various traditions based on same-sex desire, hermaphroditism, cross-dressing, and gender ambiguity. Through their creations, they explore ways to “queer” (reflect on and challenge) mainstream cultural values, including religion, and highlight existing queer mythological images in Asian traditions.
其他艺术家则与之相应,开玩笑地拆解当代名人文化中的偶像崇拜。香港歌星和影星为集体心理制造了(准)酷儿现代神话,从战后通过电视电影成为大众消费的粤剧,到不同世代的粤语流行曲。
“身体政治:刑事化、控制和反叙事”深入探讨身体政治、权力、控制和刑事化等问题,沉重地背负着历史的暴力。这些主题也反映了F仓的历史位置:F仓最初是政府印刷厂,后来成了接待室和指纹办公室,设有还押牢房和探监室。由于大馆建筑群前身包括中区警署,中央裁判司署及域多利监狱,所以这个实际场地便变成了一面历史棱镜,折射出策展主题。
“Queer Futures: De-materialization, Transformation, and New Discourses” implies everything through darkness, making things vague and undisclosed. It is precisely because of its concealment that it brings a sense of freedom and unconstraint. The body seems to be hinting at something, yet also being frequently referred to. People can explore and discover its potential through the body. As the gallery space darkens and the body disappears from sight, it presents various possibilities for new meanings and perspectives.
