Romanian artist creates whimsical creatures and brings his “Bigfoot” to play at Double Q Gallery!

Double Q Gallery Tincuţa Marin

Double Q Gallery recently brought the first solo exhibition in Asia by Romanian artist Tincuţa Marin. Unlike the gallery’s previous focus on conceptual abstract exhibitions, this young female artist has created a series of vibrant and mysterious creatures, transforming the gallery into a fantastical world!

Tincuţa Marin was born in Galați, Romania in 1995. Her artistic journey began with sketching and later evolved into sculpting with clay. These sculptures became models for some of her still life compositions and frequently appear in her visual works. Initially, she was heavily influenced by the magical world of puppets, which inspired her to paint whimsical characters in vibrant colors. The most recurring character in her paintings is the Bigfoot Monster, a giant yellow creature covered in spikes, who resides in majestic medieval castles.

The exhibition features a total of seven new works by the artist, with the largest one being Marin’s self-portrait. She portrays herself as a monster in her artwork, with the character in the painting holding a brush, depicting her creative daily life. The artist admits to being attracted to ugly and bizarre things, and through distorted and abnormal faces, she paints images and symbols related to death, dreams, temptation, and monsters, hoping that everyone can discover beauty from ugliness.

The exhibition is named “Chapter IV: When we enter the lair of Bigfoot, Gagafu and Dracovenie. Let’s hope we get out alive…” It is actually an excerpt from the book “Close your eyes, you will see this city” by a Romanian writer. This writer admires surrealism and portrays a terrifying and thrilling world, which coincides with Tincuţa Marin’s creative ideas. You are welcome to visit the gallery and appreciate the transcendent charm of the monsters depicted by the artist.
