The company has been transforming its public spaces into art appreciation venues, organizing exhibitions for artists to allow the public to enjoy cultural and artistic pleasures. Recently, they held an artist collective exhibition “Autonomous. Art Exploration”, bringing together five self-taught artists: Xyza Cruz Bacani, Zheng Sheng, Kwan Kam Cheong, Pao Ai Lun, and Du Huan, showcasing their unique creativity in breaking through artistic boundaries!
The artists participating in this exhibition are all self-taught, using a combination of different creative techniques and materials to inspire their peers and audiences with their own ideas, pursuing their artistic aspirations. The “Self-Exploration in Art” exhibition features a total of 30 artworks, spanning across photography, painting, sculpture, moving images, and installations.
Filipino documentary female photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani originally came to Hong Kong from the Philippines to work as a domestic helper, and has now become a professional artist, working with her team to capture the everyday life in Wan Chai district through the lens.
Street photographer Kwan Kam Cheung leads viewers through the dark corners of the bustling streets of Kowloon.
Eco-artist Zheng Sheng turns readily available discarded materials and professional art supplies into paintings and sculptures with spontaneity.
Hong Kong video art pioneer Ellen Pau discusses the materialization process of electronic images through video works. Pau is internationally renowned for her video creations, and this year she was commissioned by M+ and Art Basel to create the moving image work “Solid Light”, which is displayed on the façade of the highly anticipated Hong Kong art landmark M+.
Artist Du Huan reinterprets traditional Chinese and Western art techniques, creating contemporary paintings and large bamboo weaving sculptures. He self-taught himself to make bamboo weaving sculptures and even brought bamboo weaving art into films, with his works appearing in movies directed by Du Ke Feng.
Mr. Raymond Wong, CEO of the company, said: “This ‘Self-Initiated Art Exploration’ exhibition embodies our active promotion of art development, supporting local artists to showcase their talents, and hoping to inspire the audience to pursue their artistic dreams.”
Curator Laure Raibaut said: “This exhibition aims to break the norms and barriers of the art world, promoting independent artistic creation to encourage every visitor to bravely embark on their own creative journey. The artists participating in this exhibition, regardless of their circumstances or social roles, actively pursue their artistic dreams, dedicating time, resources, and energy to create, expressing themselves through their passion for art.”
Artists participating in the exhibition connect with the community through their works, evoking shared urban life experiences. Welcome everyone to come and view their creations.
