The special exhibition “Women of My City” showcases the creative journey of Xixi through precious manuscripts, books, handmade dolls, and more!

When it comes to the development of Hong Kong literature, one cannot ignore the works of local writer Xi Xi. Writers like Xi Xi have created works such as “My City” and “City of the Floating Islands,” transitioning from the individual self to the collective. Her works reflect Hong Kong and the world, creating a close connection for those born and raised in Hong Kong. What’s more, her literary world brings rich nourishment to the public, always attracting people unconsciously with her words.

This year, Xixi was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the 16th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. To pay tribute to this important Hong Kong writer, Chung Hwa Book Co., Ltd., My Book One, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Press jointly organized a special exhibition for Xixi. The exhibits include Xixi’s precious manuscripts, handmade dolls, and series of books generously lent by Mr. Ho Fuk Yan, as well as the digital artwork “Animal Carnival” produced by the CUHK Press.

In this exhibition, a selection of Xi Xi’s many classic books is featured. She reads the world with a childlike perspective, despite her anxiety towards the city. Through her innocent and magical writing style, she opens up another way for readers to view the world. In addition to published books, visitors can also peek into the writer’s creative process through her manuscripts.

In addition to writing, Sisi also loves crafting, especially making cloth dolls and painting. If you have read Sisi’s works, you must have seen her whimsical illustrations. She likes to pair healing illustrations with text to showcase the mood in the text. In addition, Sisi is passionate about handmade cloth dolls, and the exhibition showcases her cute handmade cloth dolls, highlighting the childlike innocence of this creator.
