Fang You Art presents the latest solo exhibition of Chinese artist Peng Jian, titled “Twists and Turns”. This exhibition showcases the artist’s “Willow Shade” series, “Still Life” series, “Fu Ying” series, and “Growth” series, exploring the intricate relationships formed between objects.

Peng Jian received art education in China, and his experience of living abroad has led to a collision of Eastern and Western cultures in his creations. From his works, it can be seen that the artist integrates Western philosophical thinking with a more traditional Eastern Zen concept of “emptiness,” gradually forming a unique artistic language style.

“The Willow Shade” depicts different objects balancing on a delicate line, somewhat like watching acrobatics in a circus, with images of “Rubik’s Cube,” “building blocks,” and “spheres” appearing repeatedly. They intertwine between different objects, creating a playful atmosphere with overlapping relationships and rich, vibrant colors, while also hiding a complex interplay of different forces.

《靜物》系列

The still life study of “靜物” demonstrates clear Western characteristics, with its rigorous composition reminiscent of Raphael during the Renaissance, and his pursuit of color and order evoking thoughts of Cézanne. However, we can still feel a warmth of Eastern natural humanism from its flattened images and light, elegant color tones.

《賦影》系列

The “Imprint” series is like an extended version of the “Still Life” series, prompting viewers to focus more on the completeness and richness of the internal structure of objects while appreciating the works.

《生長》系列

The “Growth” series depicts common objects in the artist’s daily life, divided into four parts: “Apple,” “Banana,” “Orange,” and “Pear.” The vibrant fruits in the artwork contrast strongly with the gray enclosed space. The fruits move freely within the space, creating curved grooves with each collision, accompanied by a “bang” sound. The fruits grow larger with each collision until they fill the entire space, which then becomes filled with curved collisions.

Peng Jian’s exploration goes beyond the form of images, involving more social order, the hidden tension between objects, etc. The artist integrates accumulated knowledge and emotional expression through contemplation and reflection on daily life, bringing a series of symbolic works worth savoring by the audience.
