K11 collaborates with the V&A Museum to bring the “Asian version of the Met Gala,” with Cheung Shuk Ping and 6 fashion designers showcasing fashion craftsmanship!

Attention all fashionistas, the highly anticipated global fashion event will return in December! This time, K11 will collaborate with the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) from the UK to present the cross-era legendary fashion collection exhibition “The Love of Couture: Artisanship in Fashion Beyond Time”, leading Hong Kong audiences to explore the development of fashion across eras and celebrate craftsmanship!

The exhibition will be created by Hong Kong’s hall-of-fame film art director, costume designer, and film editor William Chang, along with 6 emerging fashion designers from Japan, South Korea, China, and Hong Kong. The exhibition concept is inspired by poet Derek Walcott’s poem “Love After Love,” prompting William Chang to use brain scan images as the main visual composition – a colorful scan that appears in our brains when we are in love.

Designers include: Tomoki Koizumi, Qi Yueqi, Ryunosuke Okazaki, Celine Kwan, Li Sensen, and Sohee Park. They will draw inspiration from the historical British and French women’s wear collections at the V&A Museum, infusing it with Asian cultural sensibilities and their own design aesthetics to create new haute couture garments.

The V&A Museum in this exhibition, by lending its collection, inspires a new generation of designers and provides the public with a precious opportunity to explore the history and transformation of fashion craftsmanship and textiles from the 1830s to the 1960s. Twelve historically significant handcrafted treasures will be publicly displayed in Hong Kong for the first time, inviting audiences to embark on a journey through fashion history and appreciate the evolution of fashion from the 1830s to the “Golden Age of Haute Couture.”

The exhibition showcases how fashion evolves with time, how different cultures influence each other, and reshapes the past of fashion craftsmanship, presenting how it has brought endless inspiration to designers for centuries. Stay tuned!
