Hong Kong artist Steven Choi has gained international acclaim in recent years for being officially authorized by France to illustrate “The Little Prince.” Recently, he has once again collaborated with another well-known book to release a series of picture books, which is the classic children’s book that almost every child has read, Mr. Men Little Miss!
Lingbang Group’s art platform Whateversmiles Gallery presents the new solo exhibition “Mr. Men Little Miss x LITTLE WHITE．Thank you for finding me Time for a LITTLE hug” carefully curated by Steven, following the “Star’s Wandering Song Le Havre” Little Prince art exhibition. The exhibition features 20 colorful and healing paintings, with Steven using the original character Little White as the main focus, depicting fun encounters with a variety of classic characters from storybooks.
Xiao Bai was born in the magical forest, but he saw that all his companions were twins, and he was the only one without a family, feeling lonely as a result. However, the pure and optimistic Xiao Bai believed that there were still relatives in the world, so he embarked on his search. Along the way, Xiao Bai met many new friends, seeing each other’s imperfections in others, and feeling the presence of love. Steven recorded their encounters and acquaintances with a paintbrush, using colorful and dreamy strokes and words to take everyone on a poetic journey of healing with Xiao Bai.
During this journey, a group of lively and cute classic characters from Mr. Men Little Miss make an appearance, including: Mr. Grumpy, Mr. Bump, Mr. Snow, Mr. Tickle, Little Miss Hug, Little Miss Lucky, Little Miss Curious, and Little Miss Sparkle. They each have distinct personalities and experiences, allowing Little White to examine the strengths and weaknesses of others and themselves. Perhaps no one is perfect, but when we “embrace” each other, exchange warmth, that is already the most beautiful scene between people.
The artist hopes to accompany everyone through a journey with the characters under the brush, cherishing the moment of meeting each other, as described in the work “There Will Be Such Moments”: “The best times are always silent, and then, in every seemingly familiar story, let us use the time of a poem to search for that moment when we can meet.”
In addition to original paintings, the exhibition also features the first authorized Steven Choi collection of Mr. Men Little Miss, art prints, blind box toys, as well as tees and pins. There is also a small white three-dimensional sculpture, highly recommended for everyone to come and see in person!
