「WARHOL MAKOS: ANDY LOVES HK」

The father of Pop Art, Andy Warhol, has had a profound influence on the art and fashion world. Although he primarily worked in the United States throughout his life, he also traveled the world to gather inspiration for his creations. What many people may not realize is that Andy Warhol actually visited Hong Kong in the 1980s, becoming an important link between this small city and the art master.

Recently, Landmark and SAUVEREIGN join hands to present the “WARHOL MAKOS: ANDY LOVES HK” themed exhibition, unveiling the original photos taken by Christopher Makos of Andy Warhol in Hong Kong back in the day!

Internationally renowned New York photographer Christopher Makos has known Andy Warhol for many years. When they collaborated closely, the talented duo became industry celebrities in the New York social scene of the 1970s. They admired each other, with Andy Warhol even learning photography from Christopher Makos and progressing together on their creative journey.

This exhibition not only commemorates the late legendary artist Andy Warhol’s first and only visit to Hong Kong 40 years ago, but also embodies the friendship and mentorship between the two. The photography exhibition will be held on the second floor of Landmark Atrium, showcasing multiple works with the theme “Andy Loves HK.”

Andy Warhol and Christopher Makos first visited Hong Kong on October 27, 1982. This trip was Andy Warhol’s first and only visit to Hong Kong. Christopher Makos, who accompanied him, used his camera to truthfully document every moment of the journey. The exhibition will showcase 11 precious black and white original photos that have never been exposed before. In addition, he has created 11 special two-tone prints for this exhibition. Seeing Andy Warhol appear in the familiar scenery of Hong Kong makes the audience feel refreshed.

In addition, a special installation will be set up in the courtyard of Landmark Atrium, showcasing carefully selected photos from Christopher Makos’ extensive body of work, guiding visitors through the life of this artistic master spanning approximately 20 years across five different themes, including “Andy Loves HK,” “Andy in Nature,” “Andy Rowing,” “Andy Modelling Days,” and “Lady Warhol.”
