Founded in 2011 by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and fashion photography master Pierpaolo Ferrari, “TOILETPAPER” is an independent photography magazine known for its humorous and surreal images. This year, the two founders carefully planned a special exhibition for “TOILETPAPER,” which has toured to Taiwan’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park, inviting more viewers to enter the dreamy and colorful fantasy space and go crazy with photo-taking!
《TOILETPAPER》breaks the mainstream codes of magazines, exploring new artistic transformations and visual extensions. The duct tape banana artwork that once appeared at Art Basel was created by founder Maurizio Cattelan. The two use an artistic technique that lies between reality and fantasy, vulgarity and elegance, to create an unprecedented purely visual magazine, now allowing these colorful images to jump out of the page, extending from furniture to tableware, wallpaper to covering the entire exhibition space.
“ENTRANCE-Mysterious Snake Totem” area is filled with vibrant and colorful snake totems, providing a direct visual impact, leading visitors immediately into the crazy world of “TOILETPAPER.” “LIVING ROOM-The Most Luxurious Studio” combines the concept of a living room at home, recreating the headquarters of “TOILETPAPER” in Milan in this area. Imagine a group of bold and creative team members creating countless images that challenge conventional views in this uniquely aesthetic space.
“HALLWAY – Yellow and Black Fantasies” Large red lips appear on the wall, revealing the words on the front teeth. Throughout the exhibition, such strong provocation and sarcastic humor messages can be seen everywhere, like dreams hidden behind reality, without absolute real meaning. “GALLERY – Corner of Fashion” exhibition area invites the audience to enter the images between reality and fantasy, familiar and unfamiliar, vulgar and elegant, hoping that viewers can break through the original thinking barriers and enter a more infinitely free creative field.
The “GARDEN-Backyard” exhibition area allows sunlight to fall on the backyard, blending with the sounds of daily life, creating a scene where green shadows sway like a daydream. The “SHOWROOM-Strange Beauty Display” exhibition area showcases many creative and imaginative transformations into physical objects, such as furniture, textiles, skateboards, mirrors, and wallpaper, expanding into every corner of living space, turning everyday objects into luxurious accessories.
