One of the local art scene’s major events, the Affordable Art Fair, will be held at the Convention and Exhibition Center starting on August 4th. This year’s four-day art fair will feature over 60 local and international exhibitors, with over 50 from Hong Kong showcasing over a thousand carefully selected contemporary art pieces. Let us now give you a sneak peek of some exciting highlights!
This year’s highlight event includes the “Young Talent Hong Kong x Next Gen” exhibition with the theme “Welcome to the Zoo,” curated by artist Jonathan Jay Lee. Together with 26 emerging artists from Hong Kong, they will showcase the local artistic talent and present their perspectives on Hong Kong. Local artist Steven John Ho, known for his satirical humor and pop culture-themed comic-style illustrations, will be exhibiting. Hong Kong illustrator Kristy Hon will bring a dreamy color palette to create whimsical artworks.
The most anticipated large-scale installation exhibition brings together works created by artists such as Jonathan Jay Lee, Ng Wing-yan, Ho Wai-yan, and Hui Yee-hong specifically for this expo. Drawing inspiration from Hong Kong people, daily life, and playgrounds, they present “down-to-earth” and eye-catching installations or sculptures.
Jonathan Jay Lee creates a lightbox art installation titled “City Pop,” showcasing the various aspects of life in Sham Shui Po, expressing his emotions towards this land. Hong Kong artist Amber Ng exhibits her work “Playground,” inspired by community playgrounds, capturing moments of play through motion capture technology and transforming them into this large interactive art installation.
In addition, Eurasian Sophia Ho Tung has extensively invited Hong Kong citizens to upload photos of their profiles and fingers forming heart shapes, collecting over a hundred photos to create illustrations, forming the 6m x 3m wide “The Hong Konger Wall.” Korean artist Yihong Hsu brings a digital art installation approximately 5m wide x 1.8m high titled “Decisions,” interpreting the connection between life and nature through color, showcasing her multicultural background.
At the same time, the local art unit Artube Store, jointly planned by Hui Hoi Kiu and Wong Ka Chun, will also make an appearance at the expo. This is a space that combines elements of a supermarket with art, featuring interesting and fun installations that allow the audience to interact and participate, bringing an experience similar to shopping in a supermarket and bridging the gap between visitors and art. In addition, the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) will showcase selected works from over ten artists, allowing everyone to enjoy the wonderful face of local art.
