Explore AR public art created by local high school students to preserve the history and culture of the community at Tai Kwun!

賽馬會 AR 藝術教育計劃

Recently, when you walk into Tai Kwun, you may notice activity boards from the Jockey Club AR Arts Education Project in different corners of the venue. This activity is sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and curated by the Oi! Arts Foundation. Selected local students are invited to create AR art pieces that showcase community culture through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates art, culture, technology, and history. Audience members can simply scan the activity boards with their phones to discover their masterpieces one by one!

This program engages in creative learning based on art and humanism, going beyond the traditional classroom teaching model, aiming to encourage the younger generation to understand their past, explore the connections between history, present, and imagined future, thus shaping the cultural future of Hong Kong.

The Osage Art Foundation has invited a group of professionals to provide input on the project’s concept development, including media artist Masaki Fujihata, as well as art professionals from the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong, the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University, the School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and the School of Digital Media at Hong Kong Design Institute. Historians from the Department of History at Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Research Course at the Chinese Department of the University of Hong Kong serve as consultants.

Through training workshops, 16 high school teachers from 8 schools and 28 college students were guided and trained by art professionals from four collaborating universities and institutions, leading 8 participating high school students in the subsequent AR project. Over 100 high school students learned the process of creating AR public art projects, from researching the culture and history of the surrounding areas, developing curatorial concepts, scene design, photogrammetry shooting, to the final technical implementation.

The public art exhibition held at Tai Kwun this time showcases the results of the first year of the exhibition project. Visitors can search for 26 AR 3D works created by students inside Tai Kwun through the JC AR Education Project app, and can also interact with them to create personalized photos. If you want to learn more about the ideas behind the works, you can also join the free guided tours provided by the organizers.
