Chamomile fragrance, admire the exhibition in the sound of singing bowls, enter the world of Chang Yu and stream of consciousness with the five senses!

Chang Yu, as a master of modern Chinese art, has always inspired later generations of painters with the modernism in his works. In recent years, we have occasionally seen the figure of Chang Yu’s works at auctions, overflowing with aesthetic connotations that transcend cultures in his nude, floral, and animal works. He used avant-garde ways to paint the elegant atmosphere of Chinese literati painting, becoming a classic representative of the School of Paris.

常玉與意識流

To this day, Chang Yu’s style still influences the creative thinking of contemporary artists. The exhibition “Chang Yu and Stream of Consciousness” showcases a series of classic works by the modern art master Chang Yu, as well as secondary creations by different artists. This includes installation works inspired by nude women, as well as large-scale ink paintings created in the style of Chang Yu’s “stream of consciousness.” The exhibition also incorporates sound, smell, lighting, and other methods to allow visitors to enter Chang Yu’s creative world in a new way through sensory experiences.

Chang Yu has always adhered to his own path in the art world, pursuing spiritual freedom, and not following the conventional art training in his artistic journey. Chang Yu started learning calligraphy from Zhao Xi at the age of 15, exhibited his calligraphy works in Tokyo at the age of 26, and later got involved in the May Fourth Movement before studying in France, making France his lifelong creative base.

Impacted by Western modern thought, he began to interpret traditional Chinese art in an experimental way. His nude female series of works in particular show his depiction of literati landscapes with female figures, breaking through the inherent expression of Eastern art. In the exhibition, Chang Yu’s area is dominated by the scents of flowers, grass, and wood, allowing people to make endless associations through visual and olfactory senses.

This exhibition brings visitors various sensory interactions and fantasies through a five-senses experience. In addition to using scents and artworks, music runs throughout the venue to relax guests with a light rhythm, allowing them to enjoy the moment of listening to songs while appreciating the paintings. Placing singing bowls in the venue allows everyone to use touch to restore a good balance of brainwaves, heart rate, breathing, and other frequencies, thereby gaining a better understanding of the form of consciousness flow.

In addition, there are cold and warm lighting changes in the venue, allowing the audience to appreciate the stream of consciousness paintings with the best visual effects.

Zhang Chong also had elements of the stream of consciousness in his creation. He did not follow the traditional way of painting, but created with his consciousness and pen, creating freely. Zhang Chong’s works reflect his relentless pursuit of the traditional and modern, Eastern and Western artistic traditions, breaking free from social norms.

The exhibition hopes that the audience can experience the style of the Impressionist school through the five senses, as well as a series of masterpieces by the master Chang Yu. In addition to providing visual enjoyment, it also brings spiritual liberation to the public, inspiring life through art.
