In recent years, the Sheung Wan area has become a hub for young galleries, and this month a brand new art space, Nothing At All, has landed in the Tai Ping Shan Street area. Leading the pack of artists is Skolyshev Vladimir, born in Grodno, with his first exhibition “Red Girl” bringing a bright touch of red to the gallery.
Skolyshev Vladimir (also known as Sko1y) is a self-taught artist, his works do not show complex brushstrokes, but instead strike the audience with the simplest lines and colors. Red often gives people an intense, angry impression, but the artist transforms it into a bright, beautiful visual language, injecting different emotions into each “red” girl, allowing characters who seem to have a “formulaic” smile to have a unique personality. These girls all have long straight black hair parted in the middle, wearing white gloves, their identities a mystery, but their sincerity and optimism are enchanting.
When the audience carefully observes the painting, it is not difficult to discover that the colors on the canvas are cleverly divided, with a sense of splitting while maintaining tension, allowing viewers to unconsciously enter this red world and bring infinite fantasies. In addition, Sko1y chooses to retain the pencil marks and lines of the draft, as he considers them an important part of the artistic composition, which also reflects his unique personal style, casual yet playful.
In addition to a series of whimsical paintings, Nothing At All has also specially created a unique, life-sized 1.8-meter red girl sculpture for this exhibition. At the same time, they will also release two limited edition sculptures of 75 pieces each, adding diversity to the art space, and buyers of paintings can get priority purchasing rights. In addition, they are one of the few galleries that accept cryptocurrency payments, aiming to make art purchasing more diverse and digital.
