Renowned local photographer Wing Shya has been very active recently, not only launching the first NFT project themed around classic Hong Kong films called “CRYPTYQUES,” but also recently announced as the first cultural board member and senior brand image consultant for the city’s luxury brand SAUVEREIGN, and collaborated with the brand to bring the “COLOURS OF 1000 GEMS” photography exhibition, showcasing a series of new artistic creations!
At the exhibition, Wing Shya carefully selected 5 large collage photographs and a video from the many movie stills he had taken for director Wong Kar Wai in the past. Since its establishment in Hong Kong in 2012, the brand has been creating over a thousand pieces of jewelry through precious materials and exquisite craftsmanship. Wing Shya pays tribute to the brand’s unique Colours of 1000 Gems element through this series of works.
The Wing Shya known to the public is a photography master, but he was also a student of creating handicrafts when he was young. This artisanal collage technique can be found in the stills of “Happy Together.” With the changing times, the manual collage of the past has evolved to be replaced by digital forms, which has also extended the unique aesthetics of collage to photography works. Through Wing Shya’s unique aesthetics, the visual elements of different photography works are pieced together, showcasing unexpected psychedelic effects that astonish the audience.
