Tokyo design team DEVILROBOTS recently celebrated their 25th anniversary by hosting an anniversary exhibition at the Shout Art Hub & Gallery in Harbour City, bringing their beloved “Tofu Family” to their Hong Kong fans. The exhibition will showcase over 30 new paintings, with the parody of world-famous paintings series being the highlight!
DEVILROBOT’s style mixes a bit of evil with the fun of robots, and they have created over a thousand cartoon characters to form a cute yet dark original world. In their works, the character “TO-FU OYAKO” has been widely praised worldwide. At the time, the team’s chief designer, Shinichiro Kita, casually drew the parent-child tofu character for a creative competition, not expecting this elf character to become so popular, gradually developing into the entire tofu family. Each of them has rich expressions, often looking helpless, and their images are very amusing and endearing.
This exhibition showcases 31 new creations, including 20 original paintings from the Tofu family. In the parody series, To-Fu references the iconic paintings “The Scream” and “Girl with a Pearl Earring” to create works like “To-Fu’s Scream” and “To-Fu with a Earring,” accompanied by humorous phrases like “Everyone wants to eat tofu,” bringing a smile to viewers’ faces.
In addition to the To-Fu series, the exhibition also includes original and digital paintings of other cartoon characters such as EVIROB and BOXY. At the same time, the organizers have specially created a unique original painting “DR 25th Anniversary”, which will also be exhibited and sold at this exhibition. In addition to the original and digital paintings, the exhibition space will also display special edition character toy models for fans to take photos with.
