The annual art event French May Arts Festival will return to Hong Kong in May and June. This year marks the 30th anniversary of French May, and it will continue to bring a diverse range of art activities to local audiences, including exhibitions, concerts, and dance performances. Are you ready to welcome a series of exciting programs?
If you are interested in dance projects, be sure to pay attention to the series of innovative and interesting dance performances brought by Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Art Festival. These 9 performances are presented by 7 internationally renowned art units and are held in various cultural venues in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories, showcasing the diverse and ever-changing facets of dance art to different audiences, without any dull moments!
Art festivals have always supported artists who focus on contemporary dance. In choreographer Gisèle Vienne’s “Crowd,” the audience will be able to immerse themselves in the fantastical world of electronic music and experience the powerful dance movements of over ten performers on stage. Inspired by Loïe Fuller, a pioneer of modern dance in the 19th century, choreographer Ola Maciejewska presents two performances, “Silkworm” and “Loïe Fuller: Study,” showcasing the heritage and innovation of dance history.
Choreographer Christian Rizzo received great acclaim last year for his remote planning of installation dance videos and live performances from France. This year, he will collaborate with several local dancers for a three-week residency and dance workshop, bringing together choreography and visual art elements in the performance “Self, Two People, Everyone”. Additionally, Rizzo is also involved in the choreography of “Excess and Deficiency”, a solo dance performance presented by dancer Kerem Gelebek that explores the concepts of melancholy and migration.

In addition, the powerful solo dance performance “BSTRD” and the project “Leave Me the Last Dance” adapted from traditional Italian folk dance are equally impressive. Extending dance to the city, “Passage” performed at PMQ will explore the relationship between dancer’s movements and space. And one of the most noteworthy is the high-wire performance “Leaping Man” by Rachid Ouramdane, featuring aerial artists and extreme athletes at West Kowloon Art Park.
In order to break through the usual elegant image of dance, the art festival hopes to bring a dance performance that combines different innovative elements to the Hong Kong audience. We highly recommend everyone to participate in this innovative dance event!
