Step into the artist’s studio! JCCAC Art Festival brings exhibitions, studio tours, and performance art!

JCCAC Art Festival officially kicked off earlier this month with the theme of “Dreams Gathered”, collecting imaginative creations from various artists to bring a variety of exciting cultural and arts programs. These include illustration exhibitions, outdoor film screenings, public space exhibitions, lectures, public guided tours, art workshops and demonstrations, and visits to artists’ studios, allowing everyone to explore art not just on the surface, but from multiple perspectives with like-minded individuals! Below, we will introduce some of these exciting projects.

Theme Exhibition: Still Paper

The themed exhibition “Still Paper,” jointly organized by JCCAC, Lam’s Leather Workshop, and Art Explorer, is curated by popular local illustrator and visual artist Lam’s Leather. She excels in using graffiti, painting, comics, and illustrations to document life. Her creative inspiration comes from inner feelings and nature, with a love for cherishing memories of the past.

Over the past two years, social distancing has changed the way of life for the entire world. At this critical juncture, we may feel worried and anxious about the future. With the appearance of restlessness and anxiety in this “still” state of life, we all need to release long-suppressed emotions.

“The Stillness of Paper” illustration exhibition is the theme exhibition of this year’s JCCAC Arts Festival. Through paper and pen, creators engage in a silent dialogue on the paper, extending into this exhibition. Seeking an outlet through creation, generating resonance through works. Hoping that viewers can find an outlet to express their inner emotions while appreciating the artwork.

Studio Tour

JCCAC has always been a gathering place for many creative studios, which are often not casually open to the public. The guided tour will uncover the “mysterious veil” of the art studios, leading the public directly into the artists’ studios, engaging in face-to-face conversations with the artists on the spot, and discovering their creative “little secrets.”

Studios open for visit include Deng’s Studio, Non-Stop Studio, Cicada Studio, Ao Ao Studio, Shadow Pottery Studio, 717 Collective, JC Studio.

The long night is endless, half asleep and half awake, a blink of an eye, and a daydream unfolds. Even though the fictional world may be absurd, it is still a rich and meaningful world: it presents the dreamer’s thoughts, understanding of oneself and the world, as well as suppressed and primal desires. Here and now, let us enter the dream space of eight performance artists and glimpse the dreams hidden within.

“Magpie Art Journey 2.0”

The Cantonese name for Mahjong is “Sparrow”, Mahjong tiles combine Chinese and Western cultures, symbolizing the wonderful journey of sparrows flying from Hong Kong to overseas. These works present the story of three generations managing Mahjong tiles, incorporating inspiration from vastly different landscapes in Greenland, Canada, and Hong Kong, and finally presenting them on traditional Mahjong tiles. Father and daughter collaborate, combining traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art, giving Mahjong new value from a fresh artistic perspective called “Mahjong Art Offering”.

The latest three works are themed “Sparrow Art Journey,” blending traditional hand-carved sparrows, coloring techniques, mixed media materials, art, and design, continuously creating unexpectedly delightful sparrow decorations, allowing you to share the joy of sparrows with people around the world even at home.

Time: 2:30 AM to 5:30 PM
