In the past two years, due to the impact of the epidemic, local large-scale art events have been greatly reduced, causing many art lovers to miss out on many exciting activities. However, Tai Kwun recently announced 11 large-scale public events from now to the second quarter of next year, bringing not only essential exhibitions but also a rich variety of public events such as concerts, art book fairs, outdoor dance performances, circus shows, expert forums, etc., which will definitely satisfy the preferences of different audiences!

The “Trust & Confusion” exhibition brings a new chapter with Tino Sehgal’s two important live works – “These Connections” and “Such Variations”. “These Connections” was originally commissioned by the Tate Modern Museum for the Turbine Hall, with participants from various backgrounds, ages, and life experiences. 30 participants rhythmically walk on the prison exercise yard, selecting audience members and sharing something from their lives. Each person has a different life trajectory, and when they stop to talk to you, the audience feels like they are sharing a part of the performer’s life journey. Located on the third floor of the Jockey Club Atrium is the artist’s most musical work, “Such Variations”, where the audience enters a pitch-black room to experience dance through listening and feeling, creating a powerful impact.

During the Lunar New Year period, there will be a 3D light projection show “Illumination at Tai Kwun – Centennial Enterprises, Centennial Heritage”, with dazzling lights brightening up the winter night. If you find static light and shadow activities not exciting enough, then you cannot miss the outdoor dance performance “Floral Fantasy Romantic Night”. The program will feature lantern fairies and lampshade goddesses gathering at the square, bringing the brilliance and passion of a European carnival; the annual program “Tai Kwun Circus Season” is back, bringing a series of festive performances, activities, and parent-child workshops during Christmas and New Year, including “The Dream of Sound and Space” from Spain, featuring a piano suspended eight meters high, presenting an amazing aerial dance performance for the audience.
In terms of performance activities, there is also “Deng Deng Deng Stool” from the Czech Republic. Artist Viktor Černický will lift 22 chairs alone, along with the third appearance of the finale “Nail Lonely Branch Blood Fight” with 16 local and Taiwanese young circus newcomers, engaging in intense battles and high-difficulty performances to stimulate the audience’s adrenaline!

In terms of exhibitions, the internationally renowned artist Pipilotti Rist’s exhibition will land at the Tai Kwun in the summer of 2022, showcasing her activity image installations created for specific locations, opening up an exploration of the body and images through a virtual world composed of sound and color illusions.
In addition to performances and exhibitions, the fourth edition of “BOOKED: Hong Kong Art Book Fair” will continue the tradition of previous years by inviting over 80 local, Asian, and international exhibitors, including artists, art publishers, and bookstores, to participate. It will also feature a series of public programs such as lectures, performances, displays, workshops, and special events.
Tai Kwun, as a complex of historical sites and art galleries, not only provides audiences with internationally renowned exhibitions, but also extends the experience to different types of art activities and performances.
